On 17.9.2019 it was that time again: GS1 Germany presented the Efficient Consumer Response (ECR) Awards. This time in Essen, at the Zollverein Coal Mine Industrial Complex. Details of the winners at http://ecraward.de.
Highlights were the great welcoming speech by Thomas Fell, who pointed out the special responsibility of the industry and its representatives in times of digitalisation, climate change and VUCA (Volatility, Uncertainty, Complexity and Ambiguity). The keynote speech by Klaus Wiegandt was very impressive. The former Metro CEO is passionately dedicated to the fight against climate change through a global reforestation campaign and his “Forum for Responsibility” foundation https://www.forum-fuer-verantwortung.de. According to him, 300-600 billion trees will have to be planted in the next 20 years (primarily in the subtropics) to compensate for the climate-damaging CO2 emissions (see also https://www.plant-for-the-planet.org). This would be feasible for the global community with a financial outlay of only about 140 billion euros per year.
